We were pleased to host Dr. Chuan-Hsiang “Bear” Huang, Assistant Professor of Pathology at Johns Hopkins University, to present his exciting research on cell signaling in cancer. The Huang lab was finally able to welcome JoVE into the lab to shoot a video protocol from our recent publication. In this paper we describe a method for generating human stem cell-derived neurons and oligodendrocyte lineage cells. This methodology provides an opportunity to investigate interactions between these two important CNS cell types.

The Huang lab’s resident artist, Kevin Connolly, created 4 art pieces as part of Brown’s STEAM Room: a pop-up art gallery showcasing STEM-related works. Kevin’s art collection termed “Grey Matters” uniquely depicts the complexity and beauty of the human central nervous system through abstract paintings.

4th year MCB PhD student, Kevin Connolly, was 1 of 6 PhD students awarded the competitive 2022-2023 Graduate Award in Brain Science from the Robert J. and Nancy D. Carney Institute for Brain Science. This financial support will aid Kevin’s research into the mechanisms of neuroinflammation in Alzheimer’s disease. More information can be found through this Brown University press release.
